Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl voted to ban outdoor dining in Los Angeles. In fact, the vote was 3-2, which means she was the deciding vote. She justified her vote by saying, “This is a serious health emergency and we must take it seriously. The servers are not protected from us, and they’re not protected from their other tables that they’re serving at that particular time, plus all the hours in which they’re working.” Later that same night, she went to fresco at Il Forno, which she had previously described as one of her favorite restaurants, for a last dinner before her ban went into effect.
After being caught, her spokesperson put out this ridiculous statement,
“She did dine al fresco at Il Forno on the very last day it was permissible. She loves Il Forno, has been saddened to see it, like so many restaurants, suffer from a decline in revenue. She ate there, taking appropriate precautions, and sadly will not dine there again until our Public Health Orders permit.”
Of course, one of the biggest reasons restaurants are suffering a decline in revenue is that politicians like Kuehl are forcing them to close because there is supposedly a “serious health emergency.” Not so serious that SHE can’t go eat, but so serious that all the “little people” can’t enjoy the same privilege. We have seen this same type of hypocrisy from government officials over and over and over again all over the country. You should wear a mask, but they don’t have to wear a mask. You shouldn’t get your hair cut, but they need their hair cut. You shouldn’t go to a restaurant, but they’re going to a restaurant. These politicians are like English dukes making laws for the peasants that they have no intention of following themselves because they’re “nobility.” It’s a disgrace and every hypocritical politician who does something like this deserves to lose their job.
