RIP Larry King

Larry King had a style of interviewing that you just don’t see anymore. The star of any of his shows was the person being interviewed, not the host. Today, and this is true of the right and the left, the sole purpose of inviting someone you disagree with for an interview is so they can be ambushed.

This type of interaction has carried over into debating. Look at the Presidential debates. Look at shows like The View. These are not debates or discussions but rather verbal brawls with the intellectual heft of professional wrestling. But I guess that’s what sells these days and that, more than anything, is a sad commentary on our culture.

Larry King will be missed. I already miss his style of journalism.
