With all due respect to Senator Paul, any impeachment trial of President Trump would be illegitimate. Impeachment should be used to remove someone who has committed “high crimes and misdemeanors.” This phrase is deliberately vague because the Founders in their wisdom wanted to make this a very difficult and last resort measure. The Democrats have perverted into a tool to undermine the then sitting President but now have upped the ante to go after a potential political opponent who is now a private citizen. The Democrats constantly threw around the term “unprecedented” when criticizing the words and actions of President Trump. What’s their “precedent” for this kangaroo court, the Stalinist purges?
Sen. Rand Paul says that a Senate impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump that doesn’t include Chief Justice John Roberts would be an illegitimate process. “If Justice Roberts won’t preside over this sham ‘impeachment’ then why would it ever be considered legitimate?” the Kentucky Republican tweeted Friday. “Hint: It won’t be.” “If the Chief Justice isn’t coming, I think it’s an illegitimate procedure. It isn’t a real impeachment, it’s going to be a fake, partisan impeachment.”@RandPaul says the impeachment is “illegitimate” because it is not against the sitting president. pic.twitter.com/HVDJIEIc4D — Washington Examiner (@dcexaminer) January 23, 2021 Later in the day, Paul joined Fox News’s Sean Hannity and elaborated on his impeachment stance, calling it an “illegitimate procedure” if Roberts isn’t there. “It isn’t a real impeachment. It’s going to be a fake, partisan impeachment,” Paul said about a process without Roberts.
