First they came for . . .but I said nothing

Some years ago there was a TV mini-series called Holocaust which chronicled the lives of several individuals from the early days of the Third Reich through the end of World War II. The characters were fictional but the events they portrayed were based on reality. In the first episode there is a wedding party for a young couple. The bride was Aryan, the groom Jewish. The dark clouds that would soon engulf the world were just beginning to gather. The mother of the groom requested one of her favorite songs from the band but the bandleader demurred apologetically because the song was not on the approved list for public performance. By the end of the war most of the Jews at that wedding were dead, including the grooms parents and the groom himself.

In modern history monstrous evils like Communism, Fascism, and Nazism do not spring up overnight. They chip away at the smaller freedoms first and then work up to basic human rights, stripping away any vestige of liberty, filling the void with oppression and hate. This is very much what is happening in our country today. Attacking Dr. Seuss and Mr Potato Head may seel like silly issues to be ridiculed and dismissed. But the truth is that this is not about a child’s toy or a cartoon character but rather about the left flexing its muscle, engaging in repression in what we might perceive as silliness. Make no mistake. They see us as the frog in a pan of cool water that slowly has the heat turned up to the point where we placidly let it boil ourselves and our freedoms to death
