The only difference between the Vietnamese and our governments’ attitude toward dissent is that we don’t people in jail simply for disagreeing with the government. Yet. But you could almost see our State Dept bureaucrats salivating at the prospect of being able to do that here. If we do not make big changes next year and 2024 we will soon have as much freedom as any Vietnamese or North Korean journalist.
The U.S. State Department said in a statement they condemned the jailing of a journalist, saying she did “nothing more than peacefully express her opinions.” “The United States calls on the Vietnamese government to release Trang, who has been recognized internationally for her work to advance human rights and good governance in Vietnam, and to allow all individuals in Vietnam to express their views freely and without fear of retaliation,” the statement read.
