“Government isn’t the solution to the problem, government is the problem.” – President Ronald Reagan. Congress seems intent on proving the truth of that maxim.
Just hours after President Trump’s top economic adviser said Congress was close to agreeing on an unprecedented $6 trillion stimulus plan, tensions abruptly ratcheted back up again on Capitol Hill Tuesday night — with Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham taking to the Senate floor and calling for an immediate end to negotiations because he said Democrats were “nickel-and-diming at a time when people are dying — literally dying.”
Graham’s late-night remarks came after tensions seemingly had cooled in Congress during the day, sending the Dow Jones Industrial Average to its highest point gain in its history as leaders from both parties signaled that an agreement could be within reach. Futures were down Tuesday night.
“In case you’re watching,” Graham said in reference to the president, his voice rising, “tell [Treasury Secretary] Steven Mnuchin to come back to the White House and end negotiations. I think I understand the give-and-take of life and politics, but I’ve been called by two good friends on the Democratic side in the last five or six hours wanting more money. End the negotiations.”
He added: “This bill is $2 trillion. There’s a ton of money in this bill for people who need it, but what we’re doing now is, every special-interest group in town is trying to get a little bit more.”Coronavirus stimulus bill teeters again, as Graham lights into Dems’ ‘nickel-and-diming while people are dying’ | Fox News
Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer are two of the most disgusting people on the planet right now, bar none. It does not matter to them one iota the financial and personal suffering people are going through and will go through in the coming months. All that matters to them is that they destroy Donald Trump, and if you and I, as average everyday Americans, get caught in the crossfire, so be it. All that matters is their political agenda. The American people need relief now, but they simply do not give a damn about us, and they are proving it by their actions.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi introduced her own emergency coronavirus stimulus bill on Monday, leading furious Republicans to argue that much of the proposal contained a progressive wishlist seemingly unrelated to the crisis — including several provisions that amount to a resurrection of the notorious “Obamaphone” program, GOP officials said.
The bill proposed by Pelosi, D-Calif., additionally seeks to eliminate debt held by the U.S. Postal Service, require same-day voter registration, pay off $10,000 in student debt per person, mandate that airlines reduce their overall carbon emissions by 50 percent by 2050, and force federal agencies to explain to Congress how they are increasing their usage of “minority banks.”
And, the legislation would provide for the automatic extension of nonimmigrant visas and restrict colleges from providing information about citizenship status.
“People are dying and all Nancy Pelosi and Democrats can focus on is ripping off the American taxpayer to help pay for their liberal wish list of government handouts,” National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) spokesman Michael McAdams said in a statement.
“As long as the White House keeps the checkbook open, Democrats will keep taking things,” a senior Senate GOP leadership source told Fox News late Monday.
The NRCC went on to accuse Pelosi of cramming the bill “full of unrelated liberal goodies, including a return of the ‘Obamaphone.'” Pelosi, the NRCC pointed out, wants $1 billion “to build on program expanded by President Obama that provides discounted phone service for low-income consumers.”Pelosi’s coronavirus stimulus includes return of ‘Obamaphones,’ other unrelated items, GOP says | Fox News
When The Speaker of the House stood up and began ripping up the President’s State of the Union Address, it was more than just an act of colossal ignorance and immensely bad behavior. She ripped up an official document that is supposed to be entered into the Congressional Record. In other words, the speech that the President handed her was not hers to do with as she saw fit. It was the property of the people of the United States. For that reason alone, she should be censured by her colleagues and removed from her position as Speaker. She humiliated herself and her Party.
Diamond and Silk posted on twitter a poignant example of what else she tore up in her petulant disregard for common decency.
I know it’s been a tough week. The Senate refused to allow itself to be bullied into helping you to smear the President further. Adam Schiff revealed himself to be the goofball moron many already knew him to be. President Trump’s numbers continue to improve in the face of unrelenting criticism from Democrats and their partisan hack allies in the media. And then your parties showcase event for the week, the Iowa Caucus, has deteriorated into chaos and disarray. But pointedly tearing up your copy of the State of the Union Address was the act of a child and a poorly behaved child at that.
Nancy was not alone in her unprofessional and puerile behavior. There was, of course, the spectacle of all those ladies wearing white so that they could draw attention to themselves. This sea of white is the same silly tactic they used in the last SOTU. Narcissism aside, the Democrats might want to reconsider the optics of all these white-clad buffoons refusing to applaud for a scholarship granted to a young African-American girl simply because it was Trump who gave it. It was petty, infantile, and absurd, but it did reveal that Democrats are far more concerned with genuflecting before the Teachers Union than in doing anything to help the poor trapped in failing schools.
In the end, the Democrats continue to distance themselves from the very people they need to vote for them. No one expects the opposition applaud everything the President says, but the outright disrespect, not just for the office of the Presiden but on their own as well, is not lost on the American people. Some boycotted the speech, some walked out, and some just chose to be juvenile and myopic.
Ocasio-Cortez faces primary challenge from second-generation Queens immigrant
You start a brand new job and then immediately begin dissing the boss who just happens to be one the most powerful women in the United States. Did you really think Fancy Nancy was going to just grin and bear it?
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., will have to get through a primary challenger if she wants to hold on to her seat in 2020. Democratic activist Badrun Khan, who has challenged Ocasio-Cortez for the Democratic nomination to represent New York’s 14th district. says on her website that she’ll provide “REAL Results… Not Empty Promises” — an apparent jab at the socialist darling. When asked about Khan’s challenge, Ocasio-Cortez said: “I just focus on delivering for my district and doing the best job. I try not to focus too much on other folks in the field,” according to The Hill. Khan filed her statement of candidacy with the Federal Election Committee in July. The website for New York City’s government confirms that Khan serves on Queens Community Board 2. FOX NEWS
